Due to the nuclear disaster in Japan on the 11th of March 2011 the Federal Council decided to phase out nuclear energy. Thus, the existing five nuclear power plants will be decommissioned at the end of their safety of operation. To offset the steady elimination of the production of electricity from nuclear energy, the Federal Council noted in 2050 the following measures as part of the new energy strategy: intensive promotion of energy efficiency, expansion of hydropower and new renewable energies, if necessary, decentralized power production by cogeneration plants and combined cycle power plants as well as electricity import.

The "Energy Research Talks Disentis" ensure international and interdisciplinary exchange between researchers in the field of energy, thus making a valuable contribution to the energy transition. However, the target group of the events does not only consist of researchers and scientist. A broad audience interested in energy issues including private people and companies attends the conference. The conference is held once a year on the premises of the Benedictine monastery in Disentis/Mustér and is organized by AlpEnForCe in collaboration with universities. Four successful meetings have already taken place in January 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020.

The sixth edition of the "Energy Research Talks" will take place from the 20th to the 22nd of January 2021 at the benedictine monastery in Disentis. Furthermore, this time for the very first time a participation through video call will be possible for speaker as well as participants. Preliminary information.  more information

Webinar

The Alpine Energy Research Center AlpEnForCe  is committed to bringing energy issues into the discussion between science and the public.

The AlpForCe energy webinars therefore aim to facilitate an uncomplicated exchange between different interest groups. In short webinars, current issues are presented and discussed from a solid scientific perspective. A hybrid form of exchange is used here: On the one hand, the event can be attended on site, whereby the respective venue changes. On the other hand, the interested listener and co-discusser can join the webinar online. In this way both worlds are connected.

ApEnForCe supports the organization and realization of webinars with technical material and know-how and makes it available to interested parties. If you would like to present a topic with us, please feel free to contact us here.

Last year's conference: "12 TWh STROM AUS GEBIRGS-PV-ANLAGEN. Der Ersatz der Schweizer Atomkraft?"

The interdisciplinary discussion at this year's energy research talks between science and grid operators led to a specification of the option of solar power production in the mountains. Thanks to more efficient production conditions in the mountains, a third less space would be required for 12 TWh of solar power, while at the same time higher production volumes would be achieved, which are necessary in the critical winter months. The 90 degree installation angle of the PV modules offers additional possibilities, especially in the mountains.

Mountain PV opens up a new energy source from the mountains. The mountains contribute significantly to Swiss hydropower. Are the mountains now also gaining importance in the production of solar power?

Landscape protection and grid development are two of the many challenging topics that have to be discussed with all parties involved in order to realise 12 TWh of mountain solar power in order to find an agreement. This conference brings the scientific findings to discussion and shows possible implementation directions in exchange with politics and industry associations. more information
